Mission and Goals
The Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute is a major interdisciplinary research center of Penn State, administered through the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Founded in 1968, the Larson Institute has grown from a small research facility to one of the nation's leading university transportation centers. The Institute pursues a threefold mission of research, education, and service under the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State.
The Larson Institute's goals are to:
- Offer significant interdisciplinary educational and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Disseminate the results of transportation research.
- Provide transportation-related expertise to local communities, the Commonwealth, and the nation.
- Promote continuing education for transportation professionals.
